What is a Bridge 5 Mill Changemaker?

Bridge 5 Mill has a total of 15 offices, ranging in size from just 92 square feet to 1132.25 square feet.

A big part of our work in connecting Manchester for social change is hiring out our office spaces to charities and organisations doing vital work within Greater Manchester and beyond. The organisations that hire out offices here are known as our ‘changemakers’. We are proud to be able to provide useful and efficient spaces to these organisations, who we encourage to get to know each other and to collaborate on projects. We also hold social and networking events, such as summer BBQs, winter cèilidhs, regular drinks & games nights and our Red Brick Sessions.

Ethical, Sustainable Office Hire

Changemakers can hire out the on-site function rooms at a greatly reduced price, subject to availability. 

Our changemakers share our values and ethos of community-based social change. They are charities, campaign groups, cooperatives and small businesses. We have a strict ethics policy that we adhere to, to ensure that the organisations we accommodate are focused on benefiting the community as a whole, and keeping in line with our values as an organisation. As a sustainable building we have a number of different policies around sustainability and ethical operations in place.  Office space is available to organisations who can demonstrate that their work falls within our aims, and we ask that changemakers respect our policies. Our Sustainability Policy can be viewed here.

Changemaker Facilities

Staffed Reception

Our welcoming reception is open weekdays from 9am-5pm to greet your guests, take delivery of postal items and lend you equipment. Our staff also have a wealth of useful knowledge such as taxi numbers, local information and what’s happening in the area, if you need that too.

Meeting Room Use

All changemakers have free use of our small meeting room on a first come first served basis. The room, which holds up to 8 people, is bookable online. You will also be able to book our Conference Room, Canal Side Room and Exhibition Space at a greatly reduced rate from our external hire prices. Terms and conditions apply.

Internet & IT Support

Bridge 5 Mill is connected to Superfast Fibre Broadband - we also have a dedicated IT technician who can offer you technical support.

24/7 Access

All changemakers can have their own set of building keys, giving them 24/7 access to their office once they are key and alarm trained.

Equipment Hire

Whether it’s a projector or speakers, a flipchart or hot water urn, we have a number of meeting or office items you can borrow. Some carry a charge and others we are happy to loan you, as long as they come back to us in one piece!

Accessibility

The majority of our offices and toilet facilities, and all of our meeting rooms, are accessible to guests with different accessibility needs, including wheelchair users. We have a lift to all floors. Our conference room is fitted with an induction loop.

Socials

Bridge 5 Mill is a friendly community. Together we organise regular socials including a summer BBQ and winter party. We’ve even held a cèilidh and a table tennis World Cup competition. Oh, and we have regular drinks in the mill after work too!

Changemakers' Kitchen

Fancy a sociable lunch break? Our changemakers kitchen has a kettle, microwaves, a toaster, fridge, a sink and dishwasher, plus a large table for communal eating. We have a regular stock of plant-based milks, organic cow’s milk and a wide selection of teas, coffees, and hot chocolate.

Tuck Shop

We have a well-stocked tuck shop on the ground floor of the mill offering a variety of vegetarian & vegan lunch items and snacks for you to choose from. We also stock some delicious beer, cider and wine for those after-work drinks!

Roof Garden

Our roof garden is the perfect location for a relaxing lunch or a small informal meeting during the warmer months (this is Manchester after all!). It is currently being remodelled but will be open again soon.

Bike Storage

As a sustainable centre we encourage our changemakers to cycle and have a secure bike storage shed at the front of the building. The storage shed was funded by Transport For Greater Manchester, and can hold up to 19 bikes.

Storage

By arrangement changemakers are offered use of lockable cages for storing items in the mill's 'batcave' (an atmospheric cellar!).
