Our unique conference and meeting rooms provide distinctive, individual and functional spaces for conferences, meetings, workshops and events.

We pride ourselves on our customer service, and we will work with you from planning through to delivery to ensure that your event runs smoothly.

The Silk Loft

Function Space

Measuring over 1,539 square feet, and with a capacity for up to 100 people, the Silk Loft is our biggest room at Bridge 5 Mill. As you will find throughout the mill as a whole, this room is full of hidden gems; the floorboards have been recycled from an old school gymnasium; its iconic Mancunian red brick walls provide the perfect backdrop to whatever event is being held in the space; the high ceilings and oak wood beams make it the perfect callback to Britain’s rich industrial heritage.

The featured photos are for example purposes only. The room comes with rectangular tables as standard – round tables incur a furniture hire charge.

Conference Space

This Canal Side Room is perfect for your workshop and training session needs, as well as medium-sized conferences, or maybe even a spot of yoga. Looking out over the famous Ashton Canal, which was historically used to transport the likes of coal and limestone into Manchester, it now plays host to a colourful variety of canal boats as they leisurely sail along.

The room can hold up to 30 people when set up in theatre/standing style.

The Spinning Room

Meeting Space

Measuring a cosy 198.5 square feet, the Spinning Room is the smallest meeting room at the mill, but arguably also the most characterful. It is an ideal space for interviews, one to one meetings, and small boardroom style conferences. The Spinning Room’s name pays homage to Ancoats’ role in the well-known Manchester cotton trade, and the space itself features reclaimed parquet flooring, a passive ventilation feature, a beautiful old oak table and floods of natural light.

Exhibition Space

Known as the Flaxworks, this space is the perfect choice for exhibitions given its open, more casual atmosphere. Likewise, many choose to hire this space for lunch and breakouts as part of a wider event booking. The room name refers to a brilliant initiative from the early 2000s that made effective use of discarded land in the local area to grow and harvest flax. The room also features beautiful artwork, some of which is made from that very flax.

Due to the flexible nature of this room, the maximum capacity can vary.

Want to Exhibit?

We are always interested to hear from artists and craftspeople who would like to exhibit their work in our Exhibition Space, particularly if it has an environmental, local or social justice theme. Exhibitions are free or low cost to the exhibitor, Monday – Friday, 09.00 – 17.00. If the exhibition is to be open at weekends, there may be a staffing charge.

Extras

Catering

We offer the option of an in-room tea and coffee station that includes a selection of fairtrade teas, regular & decaf coffee, instant vegan hot chocolate, cordials and nibbles (including biscuits, flapjacks and crisps, depending on your needs).

We do not offer catering in house. However, we do recommend using Open Kitchen MCR for your booking as they are familiar with our venue.

Open Kitchen is Manchester’s leading sustainable catering company. Their team of passionate chefs create beautiful, unique and thoughtful menus for any occasion or event, and they are committed to producing food in the most sustainable and ethical way possible. What’s more, profits from their business go into providing food and supplying meals for people struggling with food insecurity across Greater Manchester.

You are welcome to use other caterers for your event, of course, provided that they comply with our ethical policy: no meat and no plastic disposable cutlery. Please always double check with a B5M staff member if you are unsure if your chosen caterer is suitable for our venue before booking.

Available Equipment

Use of the projection system is included when hiring a room. Our projectors are HDMi connection only.

We also have speakers and microphones on site that can be hired out for your event.

Getting Here

We are 3 minutes’ walk away from Holt Town tram station, which is on the Ashton-Under-Lyne tram line. You can board this line at Manchester Piccadilly Train Station.

Piccadilly Train Station itself is a 15-20 minute walk from the mill along the Ashton Canal.

We do not have a designated parking area, but there are several parking opportunities close to Bridge 5 Mill. Free on-street parking is available on Branson Street, Piercy Street and Pollard Street. Please bear in mind that on large event days, parking spaces can fill up quickly, so please arrive in good time to avoid disappointment.

There is a free car park (for approximately 10 vehicles) just off of Butler Street, near the crossroads between Old Mill Street and Bradford Road. Do not park in the car park for Proper Gym as they close their gates when the gym closes, and we do not have control over that parking area.

We encourage all our tenants and visitors to cycle in whenever they can. We have a secure bike shelter onsite, so if you are able to do so, please consider coming in by bike!

Cancellation Policy

The full rental fee is refundable up to three weeks before the date of the event. If the event is cancelled within three weeks of the date of the event, 75% of the fee is refundable. If the event is cancelled within two weeks of the date of the event, 50% oif the fee is refundable. If the event is cancelled within one week of the date of the event, no refund will be issued – the contracting party must pay the full sum of rental fees.
